CPHS has a long history of documenting, making available, and organizing around the need for services in Medically Underserved communities. CPHS was born out of a threat to the city's public hospital system so this has long been a major part of the work. We are often credited, in part, with the fact that there is still a municipal health and hospital system in New York City. The work has not been limited to public hospitals, but rather also includes public and private hospitals and other health services.
